Bath, body and hair luxury favourites

It’s been a while I admit, but I’m back with some of my recent bath, body and hair favourites aka everything you may need to self-care at home. If you’re a bath person that loves to treat her/himself, then please keep on reading.

I love me a bath time and I hang onto it for dear life at least a few times a week. The feeling of soaking in a warm water, surrounded by pleasant smell of bath bubble or oil is what I crave the most, especially in winter. Enter Laura Mercier Crème Brûlée Honey Bath* which smells incredible if you’re into sweet smells, but also helps soften the water which won’t dry out your bits as much as a long steamy bath can do sometimes. I adore the wooden honey applicator which allows for the precision in the amount of product you need. Simply stick it in the Honey Bath and straight under water to create perfect bubbles always without wasting the product. With more expensive bath products it’s so important as I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford a new one every month, so I want it to last. The scent is unbelievable and my bathroom smells of crème brûlée and honey for hours.  And if I want it to last and why wouldn’t you (?!?!) I top you the glorious scent with Laura Mercier Crème Brûlée Soufflé Body Crème* straight after. The rich cream moisturisers like no other and the dry skin on the body isn’t an issue if I go with it a few times a week. I don’t even need to do it everyday or twice a day, 3-4 times a week is enough for the luxurious formula to deeply moisturise. The scent lingers for hours with this one, and if you’re a scent lover like me, you’ll really enjoy it. However if scents aren’t your thing - you may want to skip this one. Enriched with vitamins A, E and F for their repairing and nourishing properties, alongside Shea butter for moisturising, it sinks so easily despite how rich it feels at first. It’s not one to feel heavy or greasy, but leaves you with a moisturised skin that lasts for hours, days even. Both are currently on offer in John Lewis.

I was so happy to see Biovene Citrus Dream Shampoo in-a-bar* as part of Latest in Beauty 2020 Beauty Resolutions box | RPR £28 for the whole lots of products! Making better choices is definitely something I want to be better at, as I’ve been trying to shop less and be more conscious of both my beauty spend as well as making more sustainable choices. Enter shampoo in a bar. But does it work? How it works? Can it replace my regular shampoo? All these questions needed answering before I give myself into this new trend. Things I was mostly worried about was storing said bar in my bathroom as it felt like it’ll be as messy as a bar of soap: thankfully it is not and a traditional soap dish is fine, or just use whatever you have. The second worry was the application itself: I just wasn’t sure how to do it. I know that foaming stuff aren’t good for you, but I never feel like my hair is clean if it doesn’t foam a little bit. Yes I know it’s in my head, but that’s just the way I’ve been conditioned to think for years. I’m pleased to say this was also just an overthinking on my part. I use the whole bar on the wet hair and just massage it on the scalp and once it lathers I start washing my hair as normal. It’s actually super simple, even if it takes a bit of getting used to. Bars of shampoo can be very sustainable and for more reasons than simply the lack of plastic packaging. The bar comes in fully recycle paper/cardboard with no plastic in sight. It’s also said to last you for as long as 3 standard sized shampoo bottles! Let’s assume a 250ml bottle = 3 plastic bottles + 3 caps (most are still not recyclable) + foil/plastic stickers with glue etc. Just think of the amount of wasted plastic you save, the amount of money you save and generally having a little bar that you need to buy up to 3 times less frequently. Honestly, you really can’t fault it. Let’s chat formula really quickly. It lathers well, hair feel squeaky clean but not dry (and I have platinum blonde dyed hair). I love the scent, citrus is my fave always! What I need my shampoo to do it to clean the hair thoroughly, as I use A LOT OF DRY SHAMPOO, texturising and finishing sprays, seeing as I wash my hair only once a week, twice only if I’m desperate for a fresh do, so I need my shampoo to be great at removing all the build up. Again - Biovene Shampoo-in-a-Bar works a treat. My hair is fine, and some shampoo/conditioners can weigh it down, the bar doesn’t as I feel it washes off completely and a lot quicker than most. It’s probably because you only ever need to use a very little product. I also haven’t experienced lack of volume and hair being overly flat. As I said, fine hair girl here, so for me a volumising dry shampoo is next day must, and I don’t have to do that with this one. A good dry shampoo tip: use it at night before bed and you’ll wake up with refreshed hair and no or very little residue left. Forget matted finish and it works as well if not better. Overall I’m really pleased with my new shampoo-in-a-bar and I can’t see myself going back to bottles anytime soon. I find that my scalp isn’t as oily since using the bar, which is a fabulous feeling as I no longer need dry shampoo on the morning after I washed it. The scent is lovely, nothing too much, of course and the formula lathers well but doesn’t feel too stripping. I’m really into it. Also available on Amazon.

L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil

Scents are important to me, I appreciate that that may not be the best option all the time, especially if you’re sensitive, but I find certain scents to have mood lifting abilities and for that, my anxiety and I are grateful. I’ve been using the L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil* for years now but rarely talked about it, so today’s the day. I prefer shower oils to shower gels as I find them to be a lot less stripping, and my dry skin prefers it. The scent of almonds or anything nutty and vanilla is usually a winner for me and this is no exception. You only need a little as it lathers well so the bottle usually lasts me ages. The scent is just lovely, nutty and sweet that invigorates my senses. It’s by far one of my favourite scents L’Occitane does (that and the Cherry Blossom!) and I can’t see myself ever straying from it. It’s just a little bit of luxury that I sometimes crave in a task so mundane as daily shower or a bath.

Last but not least, a brand new boujee favourite of mine - the Algenist Genius Liquid Collagen Hans Cream* a beautiful light but ultra nourishing formula that I never knew I needed. I often get complements on my hands and I’m pleased to say, I look after them as well as I do my face. Hands and neck/décolletage are amongs the areas that will show your age the quickest as we often don’t care for them as well as we should. What I tend to do to ensure that is not the case for me, is to use exactly the same routine as I do on my face, day and night on the back of my hands. That means any remaining essence, serum, acid, vitamin C or retinol treatment gets massaged into my hands, I never skip on SPF (which I also top up every time I wash my hands). As I said, my hands are well taken care off but even I noticed a difference after a week or so of using the Algenist hand cream a 2-3 times a day. It’s the last step in my morning and evening routine, and I also top it up during the day if I have it handy. It’s a very lightweight lotion and at first, I wasn’t convinced it’ll be moisturising enough but I was wrong! It nourishes like no other, but thanks to a fabulous formula it also works to brighten and even out skin tone. A beautiful formula that’s so boujee I hate myself for loving it so much! At £36 it’s a lot more than my trusty Soap & Glory Hand Food, so I’d be in a look out for good promos, as I have a feeling I may not want to part with it when it’s gone.
