Lockdown style 5-minutes facial at home: Dermalogica Hydro Masque Exfoliant review

I love a good pamper but sometimes work and life becomes a bit much and I barely have a minute to myself. Brand new Dermalogica Hydro Masque Exfoliant combines the powers of a hydrating mask and gentle, yet powerful exfoliator designed to make us glow in just 5 minutes. Plus it’s fun. Let’s get onto the review now, shall we?

It’s been a while since a face mask really got my skincare juices flowing. Enter the brand new Dermalogica Hydro Masque Exfoliant - a gentle resurfacing and hydrating mask that will leave your skin deeply cleansed, but not stripped, plump, and with a healthy (not oily) glow that we all strive for. And it’s so fun to use too.

I love a feeling of baby-soft skin that normally comes with physical exfoliation. The issue is, I can’t stand physical exfoliants. My skin ends up hurting and I just CBA with trying to wash off the bits and then finding them still there 10 steps later! I can’t be the only one? Dermalogica Hydro Masque Exfoliant does physical exfoliation that even my sensitised skin can take, and if there are bits (I’m still on the fence as I feel like they are there but aren’t at the same time!) these wash off instantly and don’t hurt me in the process. And for the fun part that's also sensitive skin-friendly.

The fun part, of course, are the spheres suspended in the rich and creamy formula. Exfoliating bamboo spheres are such a great and unique concept. They also make this mask very customisable to your own needs as you can simply and gently move them around to places where you want to concentrate the exfoliation. For example, my super dry cheeks are often a lot more sensitive than the rest of my face, so I would move the majority of spheres onto my forehead and t-zone where I want to exfoliate more and leave only hydrating cream on my cheeks. I feel like a winner at life, ngl! And to top it all off, I haven’t experienced any irritation when using them all over my face, cheeks included, so they are definitely a very gentle and smooth type of physical exfoliant. The spheres don’t feel scratchy at all, just like bubbles you can pop (you know the ones I used to love to pop but now stay away from because environment!).

The packaging is also very fun to use, you press onto a soft-top which then dispenses a perfect amount of product for you to use all over. The only thing left is gently to distribute the mask (spheres) on your face, making sure you move your spheres where you want to exfoliate and then massage them until they pop. Once that’s done, wait for 3-5 minutes and you’re ready to wash it off. If you are sensitive, start with 3 minutes and see how you feel, but I’ve left it for 5 minutes without any issues.

A 2-in-1 mask system of Dermalogica Hydro Masque Exfoliant is a fabulous way to gently resurface but also deeply hydrate and who doesn’t want that? In the day and age when mask acne  (maskne) is real, it’s important to re-introduce those two steps into your routine if you haven’t already. Snow Mushroom will take care of your basic hydration needs, as it can hold up to more than 450x its weight than water, and delivers a healthy dose of vitamin D and antioxidants too, while Sugar Beets derived amino acids, esters of Jojoba and cucumber extract take on hydration, soothing and strengthening of the skin and its moisture barrier. It feels calming and nourishing at the same time.

I can’t say this strongly enough, but finding a mask that actually does something so instantly without being a bit harsh on our skin isn’t an easy task so I really appreciate the formula here. Time-saving and effective skincare is definitely up there on the list of my daily priorities! I used it twice a week as recommended and noticed results very quickly after application. My skin is visibly smoother and softer to touch and Dermalogica Hydro Masque Exfoliant leaves it looking healthy and luminous. I like to top it with a hydrating serum and a moisturiser on top after use, but if you’re oily, you can probably skip one of those steps.

Honestly, I can’t say a bad thing in this review. Okay, maybe I can. The only tiny complaint I have is how quickly I seem to be using the product up, after 3 applications, more than 3rd of the product was gone. It’s such a fab formula and because of it, I know I would use this religiously twice a week but now, I may need to switch that up to once a week otherwise the whole thing will be gone in a month. And that’s a tad expensive for a mask for me at the moment seeing how all my money is going into redoing my kitchen, lol. So I think this will be a product I’ll be 'sale-tracking' to see if I can find any decent deals on as it’s truly fab and I’ll miss it when it’s gone.

I adore the results, I appreciate the time-saving but fun process and smart packaging and I cry a little that the Dermalogica Hydro Masque Exfoliant does not come with at least 100ml of product. Simply put, it works for me. And if you’re struggling with a bit of Maskne right now, I feel like Hydro Masque Exfoliant is that product that will help you overcome unwelcome guests on your chin and cheeks!
