Luxury newbies reviewed |
The sun is shining and your girl’s playing with makeup. What else is new? Well, quite a bit actually! The beauty world has blessed us with so many newbies, but are they worth your hard earned money? Let’s have a closer look, shall we?
Luxury treat
I am a huge Dior foundations fan. Dior Star has been my ultimate go-to for years now, so when I’ve seen the new launch, I simply couldn’t resist. I went down the Dior store in Debenhams, Bullring and asked to be shade matched. Did I need another foundation with sooo many hidden in my Alex drawers? For once my dear readers, yes I did! I’ve been fake tanning (OMFG I know!) for the first time in a decade, so all my other foundations require darkening drops so a new foundation in a shade that actually matches my new tan is superb! I say tan, but it’s probably what you look like on a normal day haha. I was matched with Dior Forever Skin Glow in 1CR and it’s beautiful. All I need is a couple of pumps, a beauty blender to give my face a healthy radiance. Coverage is medium when applied with a sponge, but can be build up with either fingers or a brush. In fact, this foundation applies like a dream whatever tool you’re using! Bonus! The packaging is sleeker than previous bottles, still very heavy and luxury looking. At £38 it sits nicely in a lower end of luxury prices. You get 30ml of the product as per usual too. I honestly can’t get enough of the finish and what’s even more important - the lasting power. I love how it sits on the skin, it really is invisible. The formula is hydrating but won’t go too crazy with shine. In fact, after several hours, I don’t need a touch of powder. I usually set it very lightly if at all too, it simply doesn’t need it. A huge yes for me! Get yours at Feel Unique, Debenhams, Escentual (cheaper!), Dior or John Lewis (cheapest - currently on offer)
Swatched: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Gel in Taupe, Dior Forever Skin Glow in 1CR, Milk Makeup Flex Concealer |
New brow from Anastasia Beverly Hills
That’s right, after many, many years, Anastasia Beverly Hills surprised us with a brand new brow product. Dipbrow is my ultimate go to and to have Dipbrow Gel in Taupe is simply a dream come through. The formula is similar to the pomade but you cut down on application time. I usually first take some product on the brow brush and cut the brow, then fill in using the spoolie applicator. Perfect brows in 2 minutes tops. The gel formula keeps my unruly hair in check and it’s perfect over soap too, which has been my everyday brow look lately. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a new brow gel! Grab yours at Anastasia Beverly Hills, Selfridges, Feel Unique or Beauty Bay.
Mature skin friendly high coverage concealer
I might have gone a little cray cray when Milk Makeup first launched at Cult Beauty but I’m glad I did as I discovered so many staple products like this Milk Flex Concealer in Porcelain! A doe applicator dispenses a perfect amount of product that gives almost full coverage without the cake! Perfect for every day and even more mature skin as it doesn’t set in wrinkles! I fell for it instantly and it’s been a staple in my makeup bag! Spiked with ingredients such as blue lotus, chamomile to hydrate and soothe and marshmallow root powder and bendable spheres that offer coverage and flexibility so they don’t crack like some other high coverage formulas! It’s probably the only concealer I can use without setting it with powder, as it stays put once it dries down. Get yours at Cult Beauty.
Urban Decay Naked Reloaded palette swatched |
Let’s get naked
I didn’t plan on getting the new Urban Decay Naked Reloaded palette. I’ve just stopped being that into their formulas a while ago and promised myself not to waste my hard earned cash. Enter a quick shop in Selfridges, an even quicker swatch party at Urban Decay counter and the quickest Apple Pay ever! I fell in love, I’m not going to lie, I fell hard. There are two types of eyeshadow: ones we buy for every day use and the ones we buy for Instagram. Naked Reloaded falls into the first category with ultra blendable matters and beautiful shimmers. All shades are pigmented yet blend beautifully. The biggest issue has been addressed and shades no longer disappear when blending. I adore the shimmers so much, these can be built up to such intensity, you’d be rethinking your life before them.
Shades:
- Bribe (ivory satin matte)
- Barely Baked (light metallic gold)
- Angel Fire (light rose-gold with micro-shimmer)
- Retro (peach matte)
- Reputation (medium rose-gold with micro-shimmer)
- Burn (copper-burgundy metallic)
- End Game (chocolate matte)
- Dreamweaver (cool brown with glitter sparkle)
- Distilled (bronze metallic)
- Bucked (warm brown matte)
- Boundaries (terracotta matte)
- Blur (light nude matte)
I’m super impressed with all the shades and have been using it every day! So if you fancy a new neutral palette that’s not overly cool or warm, it’s the one for you hun! Grab yours at Urban Decay, Look Fantastic, John Lewis (cheapest - currently on offer), Debenhams and Feel Unique.
Huda Beauty Power Bullet Lipsticks swatches: Ladies night, Masquerade |
|
Save your money
I can never say no to a new lippy but I probably should sometimes! Huda Beauty Power Bullet Matte Lipsticks offer creamy yet dry formula with a lot of pigment. I have mixed feelings here. You need to have perfect lips for these to look their best so a good prep is very much needed! The darker Masquerade is a little patchy for me sadly as the shade is absolutely stunning! I’ll try different methods of application to see if I can make it work but for a lipstick that costs £22 a pop - it’s not great guys! I have much better luck with Ladies Night which applies a lot smoother, but perhaps not perfect still. I like the matte finish that somehow still looks soft. Having said that the formula isn’t the most lasting either and your lip will not survive few drinks not to mention a meal. Perhaps lighter shades would work better but for me - it’s a no! Save your money! However, if you're an owner of perfect lips, they are available at Cult Beauty, Feel Unique and Selfridges.
