SUPERCHARGE YOUR SKINCARE WITH HARD AT WORK SERUMS

Top five anti-ageing serums for dry to combination skin

I usually have quite a few serums in a rotation to allow to treat the skin when and where it needs quickly and effectively. Be that dehydration, lacklustre complexion, enlarged pores, fight against air-pollution and more, there’s a serum that will allow your skin to be the best it can be. Here are the five hard at work formulas my skin have been indulging in lately.

Dr Roebucks Protect & Prevent Serum*, now with new name Anti-Pollution Serumupdated formula and new lush packaging launched recently at SpaceNK combines the powers of niacinamide, powerful antioxidants such as quinic acid ester, blueberries derived extracts which suppress signs of ‘stressed skin ageing’, fight free radicals and prevent future damage. The formula also boosts the powers of vitamin C, aloe vera, retinol, lecithin, creatine and carnosine to promote healthy cell turnover, boost sun protection and deeply hydrate. Almost sticky water-gel formula sinks in quickly and boosts the power of moisturiser. Due to retinol in its midst, please don’t skip SPF when using it.

Cheap but powerful anti-ageing magic from The Ordinary

If signs of ageing are a real concern and you're on a budget, try The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA! Priced at less than £10 it truly delivers! Combining the powers of Matrixyl 3000 and Matrixyl Synthe 6 on a watery base of ultra-hydrating Hyaluronic Acid it stimulates the collagen production and actively fights the appearance of both static and dynamic lines. I usually use it alone in the morning or add a couple of drops to other serums in the evening. If you’re after a cheap yet powerful anti-ageing serum, you’re in a right place.

Verso Hydration Serum with Niacinamide* brings a luxurious simplicity to a skincare routine. A simple formula featuring Nordic lipids, oats kernel oils and niacinamide offers immense hydration which works at repairing the existing skin damage but also creates a strong barrier against the future environmental damage. A formula is light, water gel-like and sinks in quickly leaving skin little sticky. Perfect to layer under a light moisturiser for daytime. I think it would suit most skin types, it doesn’t block pores yet offers deep hydration that all skin types need. Yes it is pricey and at £79 won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re into your luxury skincare, it’s worth looking into.

Forget pores with Your Good Skin

My skin changes from dry through normal to combination depending on the weather, hormones and other factors, so I always have that one serum that fights enlarged pores and general congestion. Drugstore favourite as of late is the new Boots own brand Your Good Skin Balancing Skin Concentrate* that claims to repair all signs of imbalance in 28 days. It’s a strong claim and perhaps you’d have to use it for 4 weeks alone with only well-known formulas, but I really enjoy it on my oilier days. Light cream-like formula sinks in quickly and doesn’t leave the film on the skin. It almost looks matte, yet it isn’t drying. Not nourishing enough for dry types, this would be perfect for combination to oily skin as it targets discolouration, enlarged pores and sebum production. At less than £17 it won’t also break the bank. If you’re 30-60 years old and more oily, I’d mix it with Matrixyl & vitamin C based serum for maximum anti-ageing benefits.

Last but certainly not least, my current holy grail the Caudalie VineActiv Glow Activating Anyi-Wrinkle Serum* does it all for me. Light watery cream formula offers such hydration and illumination as no other. Enriched with hyaluronic acid & squalane to deeply hydrate and vitamin C to help repair and prevent pollution and sun damage as well as patented anti-cell burn-out complex which claims to restore old cells, it’s a glow in the bottle kinda magic! I love it in the morning and at night as it truly works wonders with instant results. Dehydrated skin wonder child ensures you’ll never find your skin dry and dull. I honestly can’t praise it enough and at £36 for a 30ml bottle with an air-tight pump, it sits firmly in the mid-range skincare. I use only 1-2 pumps of the product in one go, so the bottle will hopefully last a while.
