I’ve been blessed with good skin lately. That can only mean the new skincare’s not playing games! I’ve been living for the glow & finally managed to get rid of that hardened finish, super dry skin that I’ve been ‘blessed’ with thanks to an influenza outbreak earlier this year. So what’s on my face before bedtime? Let’s find out!
Double cleansing & toning.
It’s been a while since I’ve used micellar water to remove my makeup. The recent launch of Klorane Floral Water Makeup Remover* has gotten me excited about this way of removing makeup. I have very sensitive eyes so rarely do I find a micellar water which doesn’t sting but I’m happy to report Klorane has managed that very well. Super gentle, it removes most makeup quickly (not the Benefit mascara strength though!). I usually soak two small pads to start with eye makeup, then move on to my lips. I then take a soaked large cotton pad to remove base makeup. I love the dispenser which works when you press it to release the micellar. I usually need to press 3-5 times to fully soak a small pad and up to few more times for a large pad.

My second cleanse is when I take my time and not only cleanse but also spend the time to massage my skin. Here I’ve been loving the Pestle & Mortar Renew Gel Cleanser*. Similar in concept to Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel, it breaks down the makeup and grime very well (can be used as first cleanse too - it takes care even of my fave Benefit mascara!) and leaves me with squeaky clean yet ultra-hydrated skin. Thanks to Papaya and Mango Enzymes it’s super brightening and makes my skin glow for days. Similar dispenser to Klorane Micellar Water, you know the ingredients in the formula are kept fresh because it's airtight! It smells lovely too, sweet and fruity which is my personal favourite.
I finish off the ritual with a bit of the cult Pixi Glow Tonic* (or get supersize version here) on the soaked cotton pad. I find that when applied in upright motion it works even better. It’s not the strongest AHA toner out there but with 5% Glycolic Acid, Witch Hazel, Horse Chestnut Seed and counteracted with Aloe Vera it’s exfoliating yet super gentle. Perfect for acne skin and dry skin alike, it’s the one step I don’t miss. Oh and I’ve gotten my mom addicted too!

First step hydration.
Most people use a moisturiser or serum alone to hydrate but lately, I’m all about introducing extra levels of hydration and I'll be damned if it doesn't work! What dehydration, I’ve been asking myself lately. I start with Pixi Rose Caviar Essence* and press it onto my skin until fully absorbed. The rose coloured beads of flower oils are suspended within water gel formula offering hydration and immense soothing. You really ought to check it out, especially given the price isn’t too out there! Next up is the mist & with Omorovicza Magic Moisture Mist I go after essence. Formulated with ultralight duo phase formula it offers the hydration like you’ve never seen before from a mist. On a good day, someone with normal to dry skin could probably just use this as the one and only step. It’s light, not clogging but most importantly it works. If you were never a true fan of Queen of Hungary, I dare you to try Magic Moisture, because it is just that, magical.

Eye-opening moisturiser.
There are many pros and cons with eye cream. It’s a product that's hard to truly review unless you have a time machine, use one product forever and take yourself 20 years in a future to see if it made a difference. What I look for in undereye moisturisers are few factors. Firstly, it must be really nourishing and keep the skin soft and plumped and secondly, it must be ok under makeup. Pestle & Mortar Recover The Ultimate Eye Cream* does that and more. It’s great in the morning and the evening, gentle enough for sensitive eyes but also hard working as I see my lines become a little less visible. Can I keep it forever? Did you know you can now buy Pestle & Mortar skincare in our local Harvey Nichols in Mailbox, Birmingham? You should really check out their counter - it's ah-maaazing!
Treatments
I love serum, I multi-serum, I do serum in ways you wouldn’t believe. The serum is that one step I never miss. It’s a treatment and depending on a day I choose different serums to give my skin exactly what it needs. Before spring is truly here (read before the sun is a daily and not bi-monthly occurrence) I give my skin retinol. Here it's in simple form topped with Niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, Retinol and all other good stuff, Dr Roebuck’s Boost & Tighten Serum* (now renamed to Reverse Aging Serum) does its job and does it well. I try and never skip on antioxidants in my daily routine, truly hoping it’ll thank me in 10-50 years. Next up is the Allies of Skin Promise Keeper Blemish Facial* is my way to do night cream without a typical night cream. If you’ve read my last skincare update - here - I’ve taken myself off evening moisturisers and swapped it for oils & treatments, so with this in mind the buttery oil and acid packed formula makes all the difference. I don’t use it every day but when needs are & it is truly the best thing that happened to me since Merumaya Treatment Toner and you know how much I love this stuff! If you battle problematic skin, Allies of Skin treatment offers a new way to anti-spot skincare.

I tend to use different bits for all my needs but this year I decided to include a lot more detoxifying products prior to summer when my skin is more combination, more prone to spots than dry. Let’s see if I can prevent that by giving in to my skin needs! Do you rotate your skincare at all? If so, what are the main factors behind your decision to make a change?

Oh good to know! I want the oil!
DeleteOf course I rotate my skincare with the seasons, but my Skin never gets really dry, so I just tend to reach for even more oil-controlling/purifying products as the temperatures rise.

Yay, glad to hear that! What caught your eyes???
DeleteI loved that Pixi Essence so much I used it up already a month or so ago! And I love the Omorovicza mist, on days I don't want to overload my skin I use it on its own after cleansing and toning my skin and it's enough for me. x
