BIG HAIR DON’T CARE

Haircare for maximum volume

It took me a while to come up with a title. Did I fail miserably? Should we have a poll? Just vote Yes or No in comments! Big hair don’t care is my way of hair styling. I’m not good at it. In fact, I suck badly! I invented a hairstyle which takes zero time or effort and thankfully is no skill proof too!

Step 1: buy everything with word ‘volume’. Step 2: Apply to wet/damp hair. Step 3: Ignore all notions of blow drying after. Step 4: Go to sleep and hope for the best. Step 5: Wake up, brush with your fingers and apply a lot of a texturizing spray.

Luckily in my devil won’t care policy, I came about much incredible haircare and styling products definitely worth a shopping trip. Intrigued? Let me tell you all about them!

Grow Gorgeous Full Bodied: volume for flat, fine hair

First true step to this routine is a great shampoo. I find that Grow Gorgeous Full Bodies Volumising Shampoo* gently washes my hair, yet it’s super effective at getting rid of product build-up as well. This is a sulphate-free formula that gets a great lather from coconut derived Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate, currently the safest surfactant. I adore the scent of all Grow Gorgeous haircare and this is like others, light but unique.  Most importantly, it’s that one shampoo that doesn’t require a wash off conditioner on my fine yet quite tangly hair. I skip creams afterwards and instead opt-in for the Full Bodied Volumising Leave-in Conditioner*, which builds upon the volume, keeps my locks tangle free and is practically weightless! Huge love here for pea peptides and amino acids which plump the fine hair but also deeply repair your strands! It’s a no-brainer really. This is applied to towel-dry damp hair and massaged into a scalp and all over the lengths.

John Frieda 7-Day Volume: semi-permament to add natural volume

I keep forgetting about it but John Frieda 7 Day Volume in Shower Treatment is my favourite quick volume fix. Applied in the shower, after shampoo, the creamy serum/treatment/mask uses polymers to penetrate and thicken hair by almost building up on hair fibres. Whatever this means, it’s a true gem. Semi-permanent, it gives volume to hair that’s not only natural but lasting. I can go a week and a half without it, as it should be applied every 2-3 washes and I wash my hair sporadically, probably not even twice a week but every 3-4 days. Great price, you only need a little: 2-3 pumps on my long bob!

Mega volume for fine hair with O&M Rootalicious
Another re-discovery is a product I once bought from Beauty Bay thinking it’s a volumising spray, almost dry shampoo like formula. Hmmm, I obviously can’t read, because when the O&M Rootalicious arrived, I was still surprised to find the formula to be a root lifting foam. I must admit to just putting it in the bathroom and forgetting to use it until a few weeks back when I decided to give it a go and boy, I am hooked. Ok so if you like your hair to always feel sleek and natural all over, this is not for you. The formula coats hair at roots and makes it quite hard, but it does deliver an incredible volume. If you blow dry (I did once for this review!) you can create a volume you never knew was possible and it’ll help keep the hairstyle up too. However as mentioned in Step 5, I don’t blow dry... I don’t even dry it. I wash it at night, apply products and go to sleep because if it’s not a Thursday night and I’m not frantically writing a post up for Friday morning (oh hi.... lol) I just like to sleep! I wouldn’t try applying this to dry hair. Damn hair works best in my opinion. I apply a large blob and work it with my fingers covering roots mainly but also a little on the lengths. Next morning, the hair is quite manageable and most importantly volumised. No heat + no effort = yay me!

Ouai for texture, volume and fold

What better way to style my messy waves/curls/just shagged hairstyle than with Ouai Texturising Hair Spray*. It’s my go-to every day. Few spritz not only holds well (I’d give it a good stronghold) but also created texture in hair that I like. If messy’s your thing, you need Ouai in your life. The trick is to only spray a little and almost crunch your locks with the product. I love the effect it gives. Surprisingly enough, it also gives volume. Maybe it's the strong hold, or maybe not, but this baby can act as a mini volume booster. I now bought a second bottle and keeping the half used one at work. Thanks to it, I’m always ready to have fabulously voluminous hair whenever & wherever.

Grow Gorgeous Hair Growth Serum Intense transfers your hair in a month

An extra step in my haircare routine is the Grow Gorgeous Hair Growth Serum Intense* simply because the easiest way to more hair is more hair. I use it twice daily if a remember and after few months I see how much stronger my hair is. Lots of baby hair is a great indication too. The serum is lightweight, super easy to apply (few drops, massaged into the scalp, done) and smells lovely as ever. The formula boasts glycine and zinc responsible for hair strength and healthy hair growth, so the lights don’t get damaged too easily. It definitely has reduced the hair loss I’ve been experiencing and I barely even lose a couple. I’m sure you remember there was a time I was losing hair in big chunks, so I’m super pleased with preventing the hair loss. Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3 and Clover Flower Extract supposedly increase the hair density. It’s such a difficult concept to prove, but I sure have more bounce to my hair and it looks thicker so maybe? Maybe it’s a placebo effect, who knows. What I know is that I enjoy my hair a lot more than I did before introducing it to my routine. It’s pricey, but few drops are all you need and after a couple of months I barely made a dent.

Volume, texture and styling for fine thinning hair

The big question for you, other than my not so eloquently worded one about the title: Do you bother with hairstyling or do you just wing it? I’d love to know there more than just one of me out there. The one with messy hair don't care attitude just along for the ride. I hope so! Tell me about your hair tricks as long as they include Netflix in bed and barely any function other than snacking... :)

  5. I've heard a lot about the Grow Gorgeous range and this really does sound fantastic. A great one to know about when the hair starts thin and also good as a preventative measure too x

  6. I'm just like you, wash my hair, apply some products and hope for the best, haha! I do blow dry it though if I wash it in the morning which happens most of the time though but it's more for drying my hair then styling it. I love the John Frieda Treatment. x
