ARE HAIR OILS WORTH YOUR TIME?

Hair oils worth the hype

Well, are they? I have been using hair oils for a good 2-3 years now and I can only sing praise. Not every oil will work and I have learnt that by trying many. From all natural, mixed at home to store-bought I tried it all. Today, I’d like to concentrate on store-bought hair oils worth your time. No, they won’t come cheap, but girl, you need them in your life!

Ouai Hair Oil*| RPR £22.00 for 45ml

Starting with the hair care discovery of 2017 - Ouai has been on the lips of every beauty blogger out here and for good reason. Jena’s creations are simple, effective and boy, do they look good on my bathroom shelf. I was kindly sent the Ouai Hair Oil by the awesome peeps at MMCL Agency and fell in love with it from the first use. Rich in African Galanga, Ama and Asian Borage oils it’s a multitasker for sure. I’ve spoken about Borage Oil before and its benefits for the healthy hair. Here its met with African Galanga which benefits the hair root growth by improving the oxygen transport to the hair root and enhance the strength of hair. Its unique aroma made its use in perfumery and you can catch its yummy tones in the scent. It has its use in skincare too, as a strong anti-inflammatory agent, can be successfully used on eczema and other sensitive skin making it perfect for sensitive scalps too. Also used, Ama Oil is an another hair care superhero. It is known to penetrate the damaged hair and generate a protective layer all around it. Used mostly as a protective agent against frizzy, unruly and damaged hair. Due to its unique formula, it’s perfect for styling the hair too. I use Ouai Hair Oil either by massaging a 3-4 pumps into the roots of my hair, also covering lengths and leaving overnight as a scalp and hair growth treatment or by taking a tiny bit (maybe half pump and massaging the oil into wet hair lengths before drying and styling to promote healthy shine without weighing down my fine locks. I’m loving it so much, I’d love to try Ouai Rose Oil next!

Ouai Hair Oil & Wella SP Luxe Oil reviewed

Wella SP Luxe Oil*| RPR £11.95-£13.00 for 30ml-100ml | POST

2017 has been generous to me in terms of discovery of excellent hair care. I was invited to the re-opening of a hair salon in Sutton Coldfield - POST - earlier this year where a team of stylists chose a brand new hair routine for me, including this gem. I have written about it before and say it again, it reminded me of an importance of hair oils, even with my shorter do. I have started using oils ages ago, but had super long and very damaged hair so I used it as a way of recovery. Wella helped my locks greatly at the beginning of the year and whilst now I’m more keen on Ouai, it’s only because I love the scent, plus a girl needs a chance once in a while. Enriched with the golden trio: Argan, Almond and Jojoba oils leave hair so smooth and offer three times the usual Keratin protection due to its unique formula. The gorgeous scent also works in the favour if this great hair serum/oil. It can be used as an overnight treatment or to increase protection against heat and environmental damage. The big bottle will last me forever, so I recommend investing in a smaller one, which is plenty for a good year of use if used one to twice every week.

Moroccanoil Treatment Light review

Moroccanoil Treatment Light | RPR £13.45- £32.85 for 25ml-100ml

The new lighter formula has been designed to care for the needs of finer hair including them chemically treated and ageing hair. Enriched with Argan Oil and Flaxseed Extract helps improve elasticity, deeply conditions as well as smoothens and make it more manageable. Flaxseed Extract especially is a great source of Alpha Linoleic Acid which helps improve the health of your locks (and skin while we at it!) Great as a treatment, if added to masks and conditioners (lengths/ends only is advisable here), or used overnight. I like mixing it with Grow Gorgeous Overnight Treatment for an extra kick to my routine. Another one for styling. If applied to towel dry hair, it’ll shorten the drying time as well as protects and make your hair super shiny and manageable. Great detangler for all hair. Mine’s quite tangly, so I tend to stick to oils every time I wash my hair. The oil smells lovely and whilst the formula seems lighter than the original, I still only ever use a drop or two in my fine hair.

Hair oils to try this season

In summary, I can’t stress how hair oils changed my hair care routine in the last few years. Whilst I use them differently now and detangling effects are lower on my list than previously with waist long hair do, the oils remained an important part of my routine. My current go-to is Ouai and I loved testing it recently, but both Wella and Moroccanoil are incredible too. It’s important to know your hair needs when choosing hair oils, so do your research, read reviews as they are always the biggest part of my shopping process. For your reference my hair’s fine, I have a short do and I suffer from the sensitive scalp and oily roots. All three hair oils work well for me but it’s hard to name a favourite. If I had to be hard pressed to choose, I’d say I’d repurchase Ouai before others though. I love the scent of it so much and the formula works best on my locks. Are you also a fellow hair oil fan? What are your favourites?

  3. The only hair oil that works on my thin, fine hair is Verb Ghost oil. I do have the Ouai hair oil in my list to buy but the Moroccan hair oil was way too heavy for me.
