LA GIRL PRO COVERAGE ILLUMINATING FOUNDATION FOR PALE SKIN? MAKE IT WORK! + REVIEW

Finding a drugstore priced foundation in the shade that will suit someone as pale as me is impossible. LA Girl Pro Coverage HD Illuminating Foundation proves my point with the shade Fair being at least 2-3 shades too dark for me. What LA Girl did that no one has done before was to put out an extra shade in pure white making it possible for a ghost like me to try their most talked about foundation of last year.

Let's start with the packaging. The plastic bottle with a black cap reminds me a lot of Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation. It has a pump which is always a plus and looks fairly professional. Bottle hosts 30ml of product.

This is a mainly water based foundation which makes it a perfect choice for dry and dehydrated skin. Silicons have been added but practically at the very end of the ingredients list, suggesting a small amount added. The formula is super watery and doesn't oxidise much. It super easy to apply and blend and best results can be achieved by Beauty Blender. I tried both brushes and the sponge and I feel like the sponge gives the foundation the most desired finish.

Beauty Bay

Dry and dehydrated skin will enjoy this illuminating base. For the first time ever, light formula not only pack a punch in terms of coverage (medium build able to full) and the glowing finish. When first applied the skin looks so good, illuminating in all the right places. I imagine using this formula powder free but sadly a little powder is required to set it in place. I hate this step as it takes away the amazing luminosity. However the glow comes back 2-3 hours after the wear. I find it works best with a little powder on the nose and around it, chin and a bit of forehead. The foundation lasted on me 6+ hours powder free and up to 10 hours with powder and setting spray. It won't love just any setting spray sadly and I find it best with NYX Dewy Setting Spray. Not that extra dew is needed, it gives it on its own.

I found that foundation will separate around the bridge of my nose (I wear glasses) and it will disappear slightly off my chin after 6+ hours. This is purely due to covering up and touching my face. Untouched and without glasses it looks beautifully all day long. You may wish to remove some of the sheen after few hours but I don't recommend topping up with powder at this stage. Use mattifying tissues or Blotterazzi by Beauty Blender instead.

The shade I chose, Fair has mostly warm tones but I find it neutral enough that I can use it mixed with white foundation mixer. I use one pump of foundation and one and some pump of white to achieve a shade that suits me. I'll buy the Porcelain shade next as it has more cool tones and continue mixing it with the white.

White Foundation Mixer is probably the best tool ever. I have so many foundations on my wish list that I just could not use so this has become an answer to all my pale skin troubles. I finally can use my Becca foundation without having to bronze up first :)

In all realness, I enjoy using LA Girl Illuminating Foundation a lot. It's not my favourite formula for work, as I find using it with powder sort of defeats the purpose. I love using it in the evening or on weekends when I don't tend to wear glasses as much and don't need the powder to set it in place. The packaging with pump makes application super easy and as long as you have a beauty sponge laying around, you shouldn't experience any troubles with this foundation. The coverage is on point and  finally something for us drier types. I give it 4/5*

GET THE GLOW - FACE MASKS DRY/DEHYDRATED SKIN WILL LOVE

Do you battle dry skin and dehydration? Forgot what glowing Complexion looks like? Don't fret. These masks will help you achieve the glowing skin you've only dreamt off.

Dry and dehydrated skin is prone to dullness, dry patches, grey-ish tones. It's just the way your skin is programmed and with right skincare you can certainly turn it around.

There's a lot of factors included in your daily routine that you could probably benefit from. Firstly - water intake. Try the 3 litre a day challenge, get your friends involved. And to answer the most asked question - yes, you will pee a lot. In the process you will re-program your body and free it from toxins quicker. Your skin and health will thank you for it. The benefits will be visible quickly and after couple of weeks your dehydration lines will be less visible.

Water itself isn't enough to make your complexion suddenly become radiant. In future posts, I plan to talk to you about Cleansing and morning and evening skincare, but today, let's talk facial masks.

I'm a huge addict fan of face masks. If you choose right, they can give you almost instant gratification. Some results are instant, some come over time but the main thing to remember - it's not a trick, they do work! It took me a while to understand my own skin needs and it can be a trying time. The amount of times I ended up with congested pores, breakouts, more dry patches or even allergy reaction. Few years later, I know what works for my skin. It may not work for yours, it's such a personal process, but it's worth it in the end.

AHA/BHA acid based mask

AHA are usually better for dry skin and BHA for more oily types. However if your dry skin is prone to breakouts (I know it sucks!!!) a bit of BHA won't kill you. Lately the mask I start my multiple mask routine with is Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask. I wrote about it earlier - POST - so I won't go in to too much detail but this mask has changed the way I mask! It's quite harsh and believe me you'll feel it working, but the uncomfortable feeling lasts only for couple of minutes. It's by far the best first mask I've used. I say first, as I always follow with something more soothing. PTR mask works on many levels with exfoliation being the most visible effect. It's practically instant and you'll notice it from day one. My skin becomes so smooth and I'm on the way to get rid of all the little bumps I had to endure over the years.

Clay mask

The choice is yours and I would recommend reading up on effects various clays can have in cosmetics. I have fallen in love with L'Oreal Detox Clay Mask. I wrote about it before and I stand by my review - POST - it's a brilliant mask if you struggle with congested pores and your skin is in a serious need of detoxing. I love how clear and smooth my skin is after using this mask and I tend to use it, as with PTR mask, as a first mask. It doesn't block my pores, I feel it works great as a base mask and preps my skin for more. Use it on your own or follow with something super hydrating.

Treatment mask

Ok, this may not be a proper term for it, but I treat my second mask as such. It's the mask I choose to follow up with after acid or clay based masks. There were many faves over the years but recently two have managed to completely overcome my routine.

Tołpa Provivo 35+ Radiance Mask promises you a younger looking, radiant skin with less lines. I find this mask works brilliantly on its own but also seems to work oh so well as a follow up to the PTR mask. It soothes my skin, it makes it plump and so soft! It's deeply hydrating and nourishing and it makes a massive difference even after the first use. In a pack you get two uses but I managed to use it 3-4 times. The price is incredible especially given instant results and also how comfortable my skin feels for days after use. I haven't talked about it before, so let's start with the ingredient list;

Aqua, Glycerin, Coco-Caprylate, Isohexadecane, Peat Extract, Steareth-20, Propanediol, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Stearic Acid, Baicalin, Hibiskus Abelmoschus Seed Extract, Cassia Angustifolia Seed Polysaccharide, Acrylates/ C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Polyacrylamide, Xanthan Gum, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Butylene Glycol, Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Chlorphenesin, Mica, Titanium Dioxide.

First of all all Tołpa skincare comes free of allergens, silicons (yay dry skin!), parabens, PEGs and paraffin. Lack of PEGs mean the products have to be used quickly (usually 3 months from opening). Baicalin extract works to give your skin a more youthful look. Hibiscus seed extract have a strong regenerating properties and Cassia Seed extract is nature's answer to hyaluronic acid. Altogether the ingredients work to give you more youthful and glowing complexion, even my sensitive skin can't complain!

The second mask on my never ending recommendation list for superb results is Emma Hardie 'Amazing Face' Age Support Instant Radiance Face Mask
Not on the cheap side sadly, it first the medium price range well. At £36 a pop you get a 75 ml of the product so it'll serve you well for a good 15-20 uses. I don't spare it. I use a fair amount and distribute it evenly over my face and neck. It targets dullness and glow it surely gives. It's a perfect pick me up choice if you're planning a night out or before any event. In 10 minutes, although I leave it on for much longer, it transforms the skin. It has deeply moisturising effect and almost plumps out my skin. My skin looks firm, it's super soft to touch and radiant after one use. Overtime I noticed, less dehydration lines as if the mask dealt with them on its own. It has a pleasant scent and creamy consistency which separates after a while on my face (again, I leave it on for ages). I like to remove it with a warm cloth and apply skincare afterwards. Perfect for day and night, on it's own or as a follow up mask. I can't praise it enough!

Moisturising mask

Just your plain simple moisturising mask is my absolute fave Lush Oatifix. I don't know how many pots I went through already but it is by far my favourite lazy Saturday morning fix. It smells incredible, deeply nourishes my skin which results in awoken, radiant complexion. I don't think the effects linger but it's a perfect pick me up kinda mask. I use it at least twice a week as it has to be used within 3 weeks from opening, as most Lush masks do but it's just a joy to be used. I honestly love the scent so much I could probably use it every day if it wasn't such a pain in the backside to apply. I always waste a lot of product. Nevertheless I wouldn't change it for the world. It offers a mild exfoliation with the oats during a massage of taking it off and banana and honey offer hydration. I adore it! It's great for dry and sensitive skin, just a gem you just need to try, at least once!

5 MONEY SAVING BEAUTY HACKS YOU NEED THIS JANUARY

Ok so January is a dreadful month. You all spent out after Christmas and New Year. Resolutions are probably kicking your post Christmas not so skinny arse backside right now (Dry January right? Haha!).

If you're saving up for holiday, your best friends wedding, she's just announced (this August!!!! Aaaah!), I have few beauty hacks that'll save you up some hard earned pennies :)

Shop for free

Ok maybe that's a bit of a lie but hear me out. Some brands do free item for old packaging exchange. In MAC get a free lippie and in Lush a free face mask! All you need is empty packaging times five and you're on your way to having new makeup/beauty for free!

Free/discounted hair cut

If you live close to the college, check out their adverts - young stylists always look for models! Get yourself a free hair cut, colour or blow dry for free! Just remember to choose something simple, you don't want a complete makeover under hands of someone who's not too experienced!

Makeup exchange

Hard on funds but bored with your collection? Have you thought of getting your girls together and do a bit of an exchange. It can be a loan or a full exchange and you get a new set of toys to play with without spending a penny. What you need is a makeup antibacterial spray to ensure your bits are cleaned before lending and voila! New collection's yours!

Use up your skincare

That sounds weird but do you know that your usual packaging always wastes a lot of product? Love your Cleanser but there's no way to squeeze out more from a tub? Cut it in half! Do that with all your plastic packaging and you'll find yourself truly using up your products! Just think of all the extra days/weeks of using your skincare have saved you!

Stop wasting money

Again this sounds cruel but we all do this! Ever bought a foundation two shades too dark because you got matched under the most unrealistic lights in your Boots/Debenhams etc? Stop that now. Ask for a sample! It's that simple and you will never buy a £40 foundation which is too dark or light or with wrong tones altogether. Second is waiting for hype to pass. Lots of products are hyped up before launch. Don't listen to the hype. Go and check the product out in the store. Believe me, you'll end up buying very little!

BEAUTY FROM WITHIN: MY SUPPLEMENTS ROUTINE FEAT. SILIDYN + HUGE GIVEAWAY!

I am a very cynical person when it comes to products offering to "transform me' in a specific time frame. I have never believed in supplements until my beauty guru, Alexandra Steinherr started singing praise. I became intrigued. If you ever get to see Alex in person, you'll see how amazing her skin, hair and nails are. I mean, the woman is a perfection. I started my research and decided I need to give it a go. This when an opportunity came knocking and a beauty collaboration with Silidyn happened. I'm always upfront with you guys regarding any collaboration and as usual, this is not a sponsored content, neither I promised to actually write a post about it. It was just as simple as, try and let us know what you think. I have taken my time and spent 6 weeks testing the product. I made notes and I come to you with my thoughts on how Silidyn have changed my morning 'beauty from within' routine.

As you know beauty doesn't start with makeup, it doesn't even start with skincare. Beauty starts with our diet, amount of water we drink (who's doing 3 litre a day challenge with me this year girls?),  our life choices, genetics and many more. I used to smoke, I'm not particularly proud or ashamed. I was young, I was stupid and I was an addict. In the last couple of years I have introduced a more healthy way of living to my routine. My health demanded it. As part of my morning routine, I drink glass of orange juice (vit C), I take my vitamins (B complex, D3 and Folic Acid), I drink aloe juice. It helped any issues I have had with my stomach, it reduced the feeling I'm tired all the time, I become a little more energetic. I wanted to introduce a specific supplement which would help me as a woman. Us women are prone to bone diseases, osteoporosis being the one I was most afraid off. I'm nowhere near the age to worry about this stuff, but having had the illness in the close family (my grandmother and mother), I knew that simply adding Vit D3 will not be enough.

Let's start with the basics. Silidyn (RPR £19.95, currently on offer 2 for 1) is made from highly bio-available Ortho Silicic Acid (OSA). Liquid form means for an enhanced absorption by our bodies. It's basically a silicon in the supplement form. Silicon is one of the most available minerals on earth. It has proven health benefits. This is where it gets a little complicated. Despite the availability, it's not bio-available, which translates to, we are not getting the amounts our body needs to function at its best through diet or water. Silidyn contains the uniquely bio-available form of silicon. The liquid form when mixed with water or juice transforms the stabilised silicon into an easily absorbable Ortho Silicic Acid.

Using Silidyn could not be easier. As I usually drink a glass of juice in the morning, I mix 8-10 drops of the formula with my drink before food. It ensure my body absorbs the product fully. Silicon is super important to maintaining the health of our bones but also is proven to improve on the appearance of our skin, hair and nails. Beauty from within starts with few little drops.

I have started my affair with the product 6 weeks ago and have been noting the subtle benefits I've observed:

Week 1

At the end of week one I observed a little less hair day on a hairbrush. It wasn't anything major and I dismissed it as a placebo effect. At that point no difference in my nails, health and hair has been observed by me.

Week 2

I started noticing more benefits as the days gone. At the end of week 2 I was convinced I am not loosing as much hair with daily brushing. I also started noting the difference in my skin. It was nothing major though.

Week 3

With the dreadful weather outside and some stress at work, I noticed I was the only one that didn't get the stomach bug going around. I'm sure it's a combination of things, but being a sickly person with virtually non existent immune system, I was quite surprised. At this point the hair fallout stopped at the same range as at the end of week 2. I noticed a subtle difference in my skin too.

Week 4

Another changes in hair loss, at the point of hitting a near month of the Silidyn trial I'm clearly seeing not only a reduced hair loss but I'm starting to notice baby hair more. It seems as my nails are just a little stronger but again this could be a combination of things. Whilst everyone at work is either still ill, I haven't even catch a cold. I feel better as well. It seems like the pains in my joints (my joints react badly to 100% humidity we've been enjoying recently) became less of a hassle.

Week 5

I'm convinced now my nails have gotten stronger, they look healthier. The hair loss is at the minimum and I get a bit more shine to it than usual. I feel great, no muscle and joint pains, which is amazing for this time of year. My skin looks more plump and radiant.

Week 6

In two days I'll have completed my trial period. I truly see the difference. Yes it's nothing miraculous but for someone who's been loosing a full hairbrush of hair in couple of days I went down by at least 50%. My nails are stronger. They're the least visible of the effects as the most I see a difference in are my skin and hair.

In overview I have enjoyed using my trial and I know I will continue with Silidyn, as I feel my journey have only just started.

I'm also super pleased to announce that Silidyn is giving away a bottle of their product to FIVE of my readers. There's a few simple rules and you can enter by Rafflecopter below.

EMPTIES LATELY: SKINCARE, BODY AND HAIR

Good morning lovelies. It's officially Monday again. Yesterday I decided to de-clutter and started with my huge empties bag. It's been a good few months since my last empties post, so I accumulated quite a bit. Having a good clear-out is good for the soul, so here I come with a massive empties post. Let me know if you like reading them and if I should continue with the series?

SKINCARE

Cleansers & toners:

I've been busy using up in this category with couple of cleansers and tones in the category hitting the pan.

I enjoyed using No7 Cleansing Balm aimed at super dry to dry skin. It was a cream cleanser despite what it says on the tub, it worked ok but I wasn't blown away. It removed face makeup but I had to go back twice sometimes if I was having a full face day. I won't be re-purchasing as despite a great price, it wasn't something I'd ever go back to using. Not bad, just very average.

Sadly I'm saying goodbye to Aurelia Miracle Cleanser. This stuff is just incredible. I loved everything, the scent, the balm like cream formula and most importantly it cleansed so well! I have quite a few cleansers on the go right now, but I feel I'll re-purchase this one as it blew me away.

I've used up a pack of B. Pure Sensitive Micellar Cleansing Wipes. I don't use them for cleansing but I used these up for cleansing my hands after makeup application, removing swatches or when I used glitter and needed to clean up the fall out before applying base products. These were actually quite gentle and very soaked so a pretty great facial wipes if you ask me.

I really loved the Ecolab Anti-age Rejuvenating Facial Tonic. I'm super impressed with Ecolab as a brand and shopping with The Natural Skincare was always a pleasure, sadly Justyna is closing down the shop as she's moving back to Poland. The news hit me hard as I'm not only losing a great friend, I'll also miss her amazing shop! I've done a review on this toner so please check it out for more info, but I found the formula of this very soothing on my skin and I would happily re-purchase once I'm out of the toners I'm currently using.

Murad Age Refine Osmolyte Tonic was a deluxe sample and I really enjoyed using it. I took it with me for any overnight stays and it made my skin feel super hydrated after using it. Great little toner and I would happily re-purchase.

I've used up a sample of Pixi by Petra Glow Tonic. I really need to repurchase as I haven't had a full size for a while now. This is a great exfoliating toner and it truly makes a difference to the skin. Great at prepping the skin for overnight chemical peels or other AHA treatments. I'm currently using a Bravura Ginseng Toner and it's a great dupe, but I'll probably go back to Glow Tonic once I'm done.

Face Masks

I've been busy in this department. I love a good face mask and I use it at least 3-4 times a week, so it's no wonder I use them up pretty quickly.

In sheet masks I've used five of the Garnier Moisture Bomb. It's no wonder this mask featured in my yearly favourites but I really enjoy using it. It helped battle my dehydration and I the whole concept. When you put a sheet mask on, you just put your feet up and just chill for 20-30 mins. It's a great experience. I already have few in my drawer and I'm sure to re-purchase when I'll run out.

In the same category I also used up a couple of Tony Moly Avocado Nutrition Sheet Masks. I'm super impressed with Tony Moly masks and I'll be sure to stock up when I'm back in Spain later on in the year. I really enjoyed using these, they made my skin feel really soft and plumped afterwards :)
However I refuse to pay Cult Beauty prices on these LOL. In Sephora they're only 1.50 Euros and in UK £6.00, so the difference is massive. You can sometimes get these in TKMaxx for £1.99 so I'll have my eyes peeled :)

In TKMaxx I managed to grab these next masks. The Creme Shop Collagen Face Mask was really a hit and miss. In the beginning I really like them but after using it few times, they became average. I just don't see any massive difference after using these, so I rather save my pennies for something else. I won't be re-purchasing.

Lastly Boots Ingredients Sheet Masks are quite new on the market. I only managed to grab a couple of these Rooibos Enenrgising and Revitalising Sheet Masks. I really quite enjoyed using them. The cost is average at £2.50 per pop, they seem to be quite uncomfortable for the first few minutes, but that's only the sign of them working. My face was smooth and plump afterwards but the feeling didn't last too long and I needed to quickly apply the skincare. I'm not sure about these yet, so I'l probably give few more a go to form a final opinion.

With one of my Cult Beauty orders I got a sample of Aesop Parsley Seed Facial Cleansing Mask and it was an incredible experience. My face felt firmer, smoother, pores were cleansed and visibly smaller and I loved the scent. I like the ideology of the company and what they stand for too, so I'll be sure to grab a full size when I'm able to shop again (aaah the spending ban joys). It's firmly on my wishlist!

With the tears in my eyes, I'm saying goodbye to another Glamglow Youth Mud masks. This is by far the best mask I've ever used. It just works. First when applied you get a tingling sensation, sometimes to the point it becomes uncomfortable. Any pain is worth the results though. Skin is clearer, firmer, lines are plumped out. It is like an iron for the face and I'll be re-purchasing it as soon as my spending ban finishes and I use up a little more in my mask collection.

And the final mask is the Lush Oatifix. I actually used up 2 and I'm nearing the end of the 3rd one, since my last empties. I don't go in to Lush without walking out with a pot of this. It's the best smelling and nourishing mask from Lush I've ever used. It's moisturising and soothing and I love applying it after a harsher treatments. I have one on the go now and I'll be re-purchasing too :)

Serums & Moisturisers

Looking at the empties before me, I realise there's something fundamentally wrong with me as I tend to use up a lot more of serums than I do a moisturisers. I love a good serum and I feel they are just more important than the follow up skincare I guess.

Dr Organic Organic Snail Gel Facial Serum was a good one. I really enjoyed using it and use it not only on my face but on my neck and decollate. I feel it made a difference to my skin and my mom also enjoyed using it. I already re-purchased on a whim in Holland and Barrettes. I'll be using it more for my neck and decollate as it's brilliant at firming the area.

I also used up Nip+Fab Viper Venom Wrinkle Fix. I really liked it and it was a great day serum. It had a gel like formula and sinked in pretty quickly. I won't re-purchase as I found other serum (The Ordinary 'Buffet') I like now but it was not a bad product especially at this price point.

The best for the last, sadly I used up (this very morning booo) Noxi Doxi Enhancing Serum Base. It was by far one of the best morning face serums I've ever used. Light formula sank in quickly and just worked so beautifully under moisturisers and makeup. My face felt hydrated and smooth and I'll truly miss this one. I have a lot of serums waiting a test but I would happily repurchase afterwards.

With great regret I say goodbye to Talika Photo Hydra Day Moisturiser. The formula of this cream-gel was something else entirely. It sank in almost instantly and provided such great base under makeup. It means to protect the skin against environment and it really did that It was one of the best to use on cold and windy days. I never got red if I was wearing this moisturiser. I'll re-purchase at some point for sure.

HAIRCARE

Maria Nila Luminous Colour Mask will be deeply missed in my haircare routine. I loved how it made my hair silky smooth and for the most incredible sweet scent. It was a spa for my hair and I'd love to get my hands on it again.

It comes as no surprise I used up an another pot of Lucy Bee Virgin Coconut Oil. I use it for everything, hair, cleansing and even shaving, so it's a all rounder for me. I love using it as a deeply conditioning hair mask and I usually go to sleep with a coating of it on Friday night, then wash my hair Saturday morning. It's truly miraculous treatment and I highly recommend you trying it.

BODYCARE

I love these Ecolab Shower Oils and I'll miss them dearly with The Natural Skincare Shop closing down. These are by far superior to anything I've ever used to cleansed my body. They're silky smith and super hydrating leaving my skin moisturised. All natural and with no SLS or Parabens are just made for luxury shower me time. They don't cost a fortune either, actually are dead cheap considering how long they last.

Intimate care

Sadly intimate care is rarely discussed on beauty forums. I made a switch no no paraben and no sls intimate washes ages ago and it really made a difference. It stopped infections and the drying out of the area causing the itchiness. I loved using Sylveco Sensitive Intimate Wash Gel. t's very gentle and didn't cause any reaction. It's quite small though so I now replaced it with a different one from Vianek. The natural formula is great and I highly recommend you taking the switch.

I also used up a tub of Sass Intimate Purifying Cleanser. The formula was similar to Sylveco, although less natural. Also the tub wasn't very handy as the gel was really watery and I ended up wasting the product. It's also twice the price of Sylveco and Vianek so I won't be re-purchasing.

Not technically an intimate care but for all the ladies out there suffering fro painful periods, this is one of the best things to ever happen to me. I suffer quite badly for the first 24-48 hours and Wilko Self-Adhesive Feminine Heat Pads have been miracle workers. It's only a pound or so and you get two pads. When the pain hits, you place a pad on your on material like your knickers or pjs, whatever you're wearing and most importantly pain is. I suffer badly with lover ab pains so I just place it on the inner of the top front of my boxers and let it work. First you'll feel the cooling sensation then within few minutes it'll warm up providing such a relief. Best pound I've ever spent.
