I love contouring. It comes as no surprise to you, if you follow my blog or social media for a while. I have a round face so without contouring I am nothing but a full moon ;) I am forever looking for better contouring products and I think I found one, you'll be interested to know about. I am a constant in Boots, part of a furniture really, so I always try and spot new product launches. L'areal Infallible range has grown significally during the last couple of months and I am pleased to say, there's one product that caught my eye and it's suitable for pale skin needs. Enter L'Oreal Infallible Sculpt Contouring Palette :)
First rule of contouring is to determine what undertone to skin you have, so if you are pale with cool to neutral undertones, you need to choose a cool ashy contour shade. If you have yellow undertones, you'll need neutral to warm contour shades. Contouring is all about creating shadows on your face to mimic more defined features therefore the product must be matte to satin in finish and never sparkly, as this would attract the light, instead of making the part of the face, in a way hidden.
L'Oreal Infallible Sculpt Contouring Palette comes in two shades light/medium and medium/dark. I choose light/medium as it's intended for those with pale complexion (ME ME ME) and it's an ashy cool shade. The formula of these is quite something, as it's made of both cream and powder, if that makes sense. It applies cream but dries to almost powdery finish - brilliant !! It's quite creamy in texture, which makes an application super easy. It's nicely pigmented and a little goes a long way. I apply it with Real Techniques Angled Concealer Brush and then blend it in using my new obsession Glambrush OV2. It's actually super easy to blend so you don't have to worry about that aspect of the process. It looks super natural on the skin making it perfect daytime contour kit. The matte highlight shade isn't super pigmented, so using it instead of concealer isn't the case, but I love using it alongside my jawline, in between cheek and jaw contour. It's really light, so perfect for even the lightest complexion.
What I really love about it is the packaging. It's tiny so makes for the perfect travelling companion whereas my other contour cream contour kits are quite large palettes. I tend to stay overnight at least once or even twice a week, so this little duo has been my saviour since I got my hands on it.
With the product you will also get a little booklet showing you how to contour on different face types. That's the second rule of good contouring, determining which face type you are. You should contour accordingly. Forget countless Kim K conturing tutorials you watched on Youtube, contour according to what your face really needs. I have quite prominent forehead, so I always make sure to properly contour there. I have nice and defined cheekbones, however these are a little lost on me right now due to hormones I have to take and the lovely side effect - water retention, so I always contour my cheekbones. And remember - it's makeup, you can become whoever you please if you apply simple rules and follow them :)
I actually prefer cream contouring to powder, as it creates a more natural effect. It's definitely my go to on my daytime makeup. For evening I always start with cream and top it up with powder for more dramatic effect. If you contour for the evening, make sure you overdo it just a little bit. I'm not talking harsh lines, not act all. Blending is always a key!! But if you plan to have your picture taken, evening lighting eats up the colour so dramatic contouring is definitely a way to go.
L'Oreal Infallible Sculpt Contouring Palette is available from both Boots (currently 3 for 2 across L'Oreal makeup) and Superdrug (currently 3 for 2 across all makeup) and costs £9.99.
